Weather Update- Snowstorms and Road Conditions
Weather update for February 16-20, 2009
The weather is a mix of rain, sleet, snow and fog. The roads are currently at R2. This means all vehicles must have chains, except four wheel drive with snow tires. Currently, busses are acceptable on mountain roads with chains. I have been out there and I won't go on the roads without my four wheel drive and chains on my tires. The roads are inundated with wet slushy snow. Travel to the mountains require slow and cautious drivers. Please be careful out there!
Week of February 9-13, 2009 We have SNOW! Lots and lots of the white fluffy stuff is falling down upon us and is absolutely gorgeous! Road conditions are being updated as Cal Trans clears the main roads. Today, Monday, we have had about 6 inches since midnight last night. There are power outages in some mountain areas. The Camps are both in full swing. The Ranch in Arrowhead has power to all living quarters and play areas. The lodge/dining room has no electricity right now. Our kitchens all have gas stoves so hot food is not an issue. Edison is fixing the problem of downed lines as they happen. Forecast:MONDAY:Snow and lots of it! High is 34 and the low will be 27. Light snow showers to continue in the mountains until midnight. Snow level to 4,000 feet. Arrowhead Ranch in Lake Arrowhead is at 5,300 feet. Arrowhead Ranch in Twin Peaks is 5,000 feet. Winds SW 20-30mph, widespread showers and slight chance thunderstorms producing small hail. Tuesday: Partly cloudy. Not as cold. Highs 35-45. Winds west 15-20mph. Wednesday: Partly cloudy, highs 40-50. Winds west 15mph. Wednesday night; Partly cloudy. Slight chance of snow showers overnight. Lows 22-32. Snow level 5,500 feet overnight. 20% precipitation. Thursday: Partly cloudy. Slight chance of showers. Highs 34-44. Night; partly cloudy lows to 21-31. Friday: Partly cloudy highs 35-45. Busses should have no problem getting out on Thursday morning and Friday morning. Thorman has arrived safely and the kids are having a blast! We expect Boulder Ridge to arrive Tuesday morning without any problems at all. Chain control is in effect for all vehicles without 4-wheel drive. Busses are required to install chains at chain check where they are safely put on at the side of the road. Students begin their first meal at lunch. A hot lunch is served all week and students will be kept warm and toasty throughout the week. Pack extra socks and long pants. Gloves and hats. Snow boots are great if you have them. If you don't send up the plastic grocery store bags. Kids put their warm socked feet into the bag and then put their foot into their shoe. We tie off the baggy to keep the feet dry. Any questions or concerns, please contact Kathy Farley, mzcamp@hotmail.com. Thanks so much! We are having a winter wonderland good time at camp this week!
This page is for inclement weather forecasted. The goal is to better prepare parents, students and guests' attending Arrowhead Ranch.
Alert for: December 12-25, 2009.The weather for this week is snow, snow, snow and more snow. Tuesday, the weather service is predicting scattered snow showers with a high of 35 degrees. The roads are clear and cal-trans will continue to keep the main highways as free of snow as possible. All busses are required to put chains on at the 3,500 foot level. That may drop or go higher depending on the amount of snow to come. Wednesday the snow will come in a fast storm dropping down to 3,000 foot level. Thursday and Friday are expected to be clear with 10% precipitation. No snow or rain are expected for Thursday or Friday. Our busses should have no problem getting back to school on Friday morning. If you have any questions about the weather, please check the weather on your local news channel. When packing this week, make sure you have plenty of warm clothes for your child. Gloves, hats, scarves and several pair of socks are highly recommended. When the weather clears it will still remain in the low 30's during the day. It may creep up to the 40's, expect cold weather. The kids won't be hiking in snow storms or rain showers. We do have heated cabins where the kids stay. They will have an opportunity to change into dry clothes before each hike. If you have questions, please email Kathy Farley, mzcamp@msn.com. I will be happy to assist you with any information updates I get! Thanks you parents for your support for this wonderful experience for your kids!
