Outdoor Science School Programs

Our standard 5-day program runs like a typical school week, Monday through Friday. We also offer a 4-day program.

During this week, the children learn about botany, geology, astronomy, meteorology and the water cycle, ecology, habitats and adaptations, energy and conservation. Each unit is based on the State Board of Education Science Framework.

The kids receive school credit for participating in this exciting class program. The classroom teachers accompany the kids on this trip which creates some wonderful bonding opportunities.

Our cabin leaders meet the students as soon as they arrive and the week is off and running to a great start. The boys sleep in cabins in their own area and the girls in theirs, but join together to make-up coed trail groups.

As an ice breaker we have the kids do line dancing coordinated by a certified square dance caller named, Gene Arnold. He gets the kids going and they have a wonderful time. After the dance, the kids watch our creative staff team get up on stage and do some funny and entertaining skits. This is a big hit with the kids. The kids then return the fun by doing skits of their own creation on Thursday night. The talents of the kids who come up, combined with the theme for the week make laughter come easy. We all have a memorable night on Thursday.

Mealtime is when all trail groups join together as a school. We serve 3-square meals a day in an all-you-can-eat buffet style.  The purest of kid food is served.  We also offer vegetarian options and specially prepared meals designed to accomodate food allergies.

Our programs are offered at two different sites - our home site at Arrowhead Kids Camp & Thousand Pines Conference Center.  Click here for additional information about our programs at the Thousand Pines site or visit their website at http://thousandpines.com.

Each of the lessons is taught by the Naturalist out on the trail.

Of course, the hikes are a highlight everyday for our student guests. The snow comes to us in the begging of October on some years and other years it doesn't hit until after December. The snow season lasts up until June. Every year is different. We can't promise snow in March but we can't promise warm days in June either. We encourage our parents to check the news weather forcast before they help their student pack for the trip.
