Arrowhead Ranch Retreats, Conferences and Outdoor Science School

Where life is an adventure not a race!

Arrowhead Ranch Outdoor Science School teaches from the California State Board of Education, Science Framework.
The adaptation of the written words for fifth and sixth grade students is used in a hands-on learning style.
The kids are here to hike, hear, see, feel, touch and smell the science concepts beyond the classroom. They are able to interact with nature and our natural surroundings.
All the framework is from the California State Board of Education and is revamped each year to keep up with the standards.

Outdoor Science School Curriculum
The Outdoor Science School curriculum emphasizes:
  • The biological sciences
  • The earth sciences
  • Conservation and wise use of natural resources
  • Recreation, arts, crafts and music
  • Health education
  • Cooperative living

Specific classes include Botany, Geology, Astronomy, Meteorology/Water Cycle, Ecology, Habitats & Adaptations, Energy, Native American Studies, and the Night Hike.

Students will see what they are learning about as they hike through the different ecosystems.
Alligator lizard as seen by a group stops to look before he hides under the rock.
Learning about botany the trail team breaks into smaller groups in tree identification.
In the spring and summer kids get to see what wildflowers grow in our area.
The manzanita tree is drought tolerant and survives the diverse weather. In the spring it produces pink bud flowers that look like little red apples. The apples feel sticky and act like velcro. If we find one on the ground we will toss it on our clothing to show the kids how it sticks.
